Use Offot CongegrationUse Offot Congregation CommitteeNorfolk Church of Christ was chosen among a few other congregations in the country to participate in a unique mission work. The AtMyGate Program allotted $10,000 to our congregation to use for aid to African orphans in any way we chose. As a result of this program, we have become acquainted with the Use Offot Church of Christ in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. The Norfolk Church of Christ has partnered with the Use Offot Church of Christ to assist orphans in the Uyo area with funds for tuition, medical care, educational supplies, and apprenticeship programs to enable very young adults to learn a trade and become self-sufficient They are not only assisting orphans that are being cared for among them in the church but also reaching out into the community, introducing the Lord’s church to these young people and giving them hope for their own future, all in the name of Jesus Christ.

A committee meets to discuss ways to best use these funds and then presents that to the congregation. A letter writing campaign (pen pals) was initiated by our 2nd & 3rd grade Sunday morning Bible Class with some of the children at the orphanage in the Uyo area in Nigeria. Individuals and families in our congregation are encouraged to donate to this program in any way they can and to become familiar with the work going on in Uyo and the faces that it is affecting.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
